Jim Wychor has always understood what broadcasting means to the community. A graduate of Brown Institute, Wychor has done just about everything there is to do in radio, from announcer to program director to engineer to sales and management, at stations in Iowa, Michigan, West Virginia, and Minnesota. He found a home at KWOA AM/FM in Worthington. For 26 years, he was KWOA's co-owner, vice president and general manager, and he made the station a part of the lives of listeners throughout the region. As president and CEO of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association from 1989 to 1997, he revitalized the organization and developed the popular Alternative FCC Inspection Program. He later helped defeat a proposed sales tax on broadcast advertising while serving as government relations representative for the MBA. He won extended operating hours for daytime radio stations as president of the Daytime Broadcasters Association, has served on t he boards of the National Radio Broadcasters Association, the National Association of Broadcasters, and the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting, and was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Arne Carlson. Now a consultant and broker, he will be remembered for his many contributions as an outstanding advocate for the broadcast industry.
